The fact that Matthew didn’t get upset…. not then, and not the night his mother first went to the hospital….that’s a bad sign to me.Well, and the fact that the only thing she loves about him is his income.

Correction: I’m sorry, of course she loves other things about him… like his house…. and his savings and his possible inheritance.

Maybe Lila can get a discount on a wedding-funeral combo.

Night-Gaunt that’s the point…. she’s not in love with him at all, and she can’t bring herself to play the adoration game, not even to get his money.Yet she told him she’d marry him…. and it certainly wasn’t for passion.

I’m just waiting for Mathew’s mother to meet Lila’s mother. Now that will be interesting….

Some marriages of convenience (read: for money) are quite honest and solid … no romance but no illusions either, just a friendly mutual business proposition. Lila may not be as dumb as some readers think she is.
