And today I just realized that my own cat, who remained in NY while I was snowbirding for 5 months, is in a big need to have her nails clipped. It’s a 2-person job because she becomes a tigress when I attempt it.
What scares me about this particular cat is that it seems to be able to puff up to room-filling dimensions. If Clovia had turned around in panel one, she would have had a heart attack!
In one of James Herriott’s stories, he said that veterinarians would wrap cat patients in a piece of cloth, such as a bed sheet, leaving the area where they needed to do their work exposed. This might work for trimming cat’s claws. In this situation, you would have to do it four times — one for each limb.
I started my cats off as kittens laying them on their backs in my lap for a claw trim. Now as adults, they both put up with the trimming ritual quite nicely. In fact, they love the attention (which always includes a treat or two).
I should change my nom de plume to ‘catwhisperer’… clipping a cats nails is a Big Thing at my local vet’s.. (mainly the bill) Getting a cat used to the ‘shiny thing’ that’s to be used for the clipping is the largest obstacle. (ever leave a hypodermic around your kids when they were due for a shot, or show what it does… ?? probly not, ’cuz of todays ’never frighten/endanger/educate your children laws)Anyways, just clip one toenail and let it go, then next event, clip two and so on.. Mine was a chain-drive 4-wheel drive 28-toed cat, so you can see where the experience came from! That feline could win a greased-pole contest in 12-seconds FLAT !
a water pistol would be a great introduction to Lucky’s undesired behaviour…just saying, its what cats hate most and it gets their attention….it doesnt keep it so dont overdo it, but it will help train your kitty
I’ve never had to trim any of my cats’ claws. I didn’t see the point. They don’t grow like dogs’ claws do. Which reminds me, we have to trim my hubby’s Dachshund’s claws soon. He won’t do it so he has to play the bad guy and hold him while I do it.

Clovia has allowed the cat to be evil by not disciplining him for attacking Slim. Now it’s too late to avoid a bloody battle.
