He was a great one. Could do the triple – sing, play and write. In our area, “Pretty Woman” with Roy singing was once voted the greatest oldie of all time at Sunny 95 FM by call-in vote. They played a thousand oldies over a 4 day Labor Day weekend, in order of which got the most votes. Roy won.

One of the local radio stations has been playing a lot of “The Traveling Wilburys”. For a treat, watch the official video of “Handle with Care” on YouTube. Sad, though, because he died soon after.

Elvis may have been King, but Roy was like a Greek leader because of his far reaching voice….call him Octavius

Always liked Roy Orbison. It was said that Pretty Woman was about his wife.

But “Octavius” was a ROMAN!(Later known as Agustus, of course – see “I, Claudius”)
And anyway, he wasn’t a singer – that was NERO.

I think the point was that Octavius, an Emperor, ranked above “the King”.

went to a concert. interesting reactions…me, i got that (about to be eaten alive by a predator) ice-in-the-guts, hair crawling out from under your hat, creeps. some people got stunned looks and urinated themselves. the guy had a really frightening, scary voice. good singer, just creepy.

I can only assume that they are dreaming of wrapping him in cling-film.

I was alright …for awhile…He was the best. He and Marty Robbins like will not be seen again in our culture and to me that is a rueful thing….

On the “Roy Orbison-Black and White Night” DVD Springsteen, Elvis costello,Bonnie Raitt and many others were all backup to Roy. A great disc. It was an NPR pledge night gift and what a lovely gift it was.

How did you know???
Absolutely, any time Roy is singing, I have to stay right there to hear the entire song. I have more Roy on my iPod than anyone else.
Well done!
