i was raised to work hard, so I try to raise my kids the same. It’s funny how my sister has a much different outlook than I do, and her kids have everything done by a housekeeper for them. Several years ago, I was in my daughter’s Kindergarten class and they were doing centers where the kids were divided up into small groups. It was time to rotate centers, so I told the kids in my group to clean up before they move on to the next center. One girl said “I don’t have to clean up. The maid does that.” It was sad and funny at the same time…
yes, but the gardner does not live there and eat their food, etc… he does. Whenever I aksed about pay for chores, my parents would say “your pay is having a roof over your head, and food in your belly”
Wouldn’t want our 5-yr.-old to learn Mike’s comment. When asked to pick up something she dropped, she’ll often bellow, “WHY DO I HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING?” The adorable grandson, when asked to pick up something, has been known to say, “I don’t do housework!”
When I was in college, I had to go by rail through Chicago. The US/Canadian dollar would sometimes be even, sometimes one above the other. I could always tell when the Canadian dollar was lower – one would see Canadian coins in change when buying something. (Rarely when other way around!)
Saw this at Alcatraz on vacation. Thought it was pretty good for kids too! Alcatraz: Inmate Rules&RegulationsRule#5. PRIVILEGES. You are entitled to food, clothing, shelter and medical attention. Anything else that you get is a privilege!!! You earn your privileges!! LOL.
Since we get our Canada Pension in US $ (after the Bank of America takes their unspecified rake-off), I can testify that the Canadian $ has been stronger for years. Unless you believe BoA exchanges without charge out of the goodness of their nonexistent heart. It first happened in the 1970s after John Connoly declared economic war on Canada over the Auto Pact, and has bounced around more or less par since.

I think she should dock his pay every time he whines. That’ll end it quick.

Michael needs to learn the value of money and how hard it can be to save a little at a time for what you want!

Wait till he is an adult, and saving up to buy something he wants, and then a doctor/hospital bill wipes it out!
