Enlarged image available from here (has historical detail as well).7 years later, he painted another version (enlarged image and description) of The Education of the Children ofClovis. There is something different about the face of the red-cloaked (monk?) participant in the enlarged image of this version that I can’t quite put my finger on — it’s almost like the painting has aged and somebody tried to enhance it.This detail image is closer to this coloration. This has a second detail image. His Wikipedia page (has a short description of this painting in the caption of its inset image) and collection (more paintings, including this one, are available from the Subcategories).Second of the 4 works by this artist (2 under different nationalities), that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.
@Mabrndt, I am impressed by the detail in this work but I do not see the detail of the items in the boy’s hands. I was wondering if anyone identified them. Sometimes I peruse the paintings in detail but not lately.

Johnny Diego, thanks for the clip. I’d forgotten how funny Johnny Carson could be and remember laughing ’til I cried when this aired originally!
