This joke and the one on Argyle Sweater are two the oldest cartoon jokes that have been done about a million times before. As cartoonists how cold you NOT know that???

Hooray for silly old jokes! And any silly new ones that come along….or is that even possible? Two, three, half a million great minds think alike.

Doc Toon said:As long as one cartoon is not a direct rip off of another, I really don’t see anything wrong with multiple creators having essentially the same idea

Neither do I, but this is not a variation on a theme. This is the same cartoon. It IS the same cartoon. I’m not saying this cartoonist copied it, or ripped it off, or whatever. I’m just saying this joke has been done since the Jurassic era. Now, maybe, if this old gag was a parody on itself, it might work better. Say, Drawing a TheSAURUS as a dinosaur, an ANTomyn as an insect, etc. SOMETHING that didn’t have as the joke just a THESAURUS as a dinosaur. Or maybe, if, say, the cartoon was about a caveman who was the FIRST cartoon, drawing the FIRST cartoon and he was drawing this cartoon on a cave wall…that might work, and it would also be a comment on the antiquity of this cartoon. That would be funny in that it would make fun of the ridiculousness how old this joke is.

    Just trying to help here.

It might just be that I’ve been doing cartoons a long time and I’ve seen this cartoon done since the beginning of time. It’s hard to understand how a cartoonist would not be aware of this.

His cartoon was similar but it was different. It made me laugh and that is all that counts. I saved it in my personal collection.
