If a whole bunch of writers got together and this happened, would it be called ‘writers bloc’?

LOL! However, I’ve had three magazine and book editors tell me to never, ever start a story with ‘Once upon a time’, or even with Snoopy’s ‘It was a dark and stormy night’.The opening sentence to any story has to POP. The first few sentences will be the determining factor as to whether a reader will continue to read. If it doesn’t hook you by the first paragraph, put the book back on the shelf.I’m just sayin’…

Once I had to write a story for a small publication. Hadn’t written much in several years, couldn’t start. So I got out the trusty two-reel tape recorder and made myself start talking. Pretty soon the floodgates were opened, and as you can see, forty-some-odd years later, I’m still at it!

“It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents—except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness.”— Edward George Bulwer-Lytton, 1830

Agent 54: It’s all about the suspension of belief. In other words if you’ll believe that a drawing can speak or even speak with a dialog balloon, then what difference does it make if the history time line is incorrect?
