I like the furnishings and the style of the room in this painting.

I love how a supernatural being has to walk in through the door. Kind of like when my best bud wondered aloud why in the movies, angels, demons etc have to resort to martial arts!

You would think she would just pick up some of the gravel that has chipped off those streets of gold.

Just roll the body up in the carpet and take it to the usual place.

The angel is coming in to tell the one in bed that they have won the lottery. Angels bring good news!

Pretty much repeating what I wrote May 15, 2012 (if you looked at all 9 back then, you’ve already seen this):Click-to-enlarge image available from here (last View All Sizes choice). The Dream of St Ursula is described here (for some reason, she’s sad in the preparatory drawing) — similar scene seen earlier here. It is one of 9 The Stories from the Life of St Ursula (main page, follow the links to see all 9, plus detail images, and descriptions — the i in the Info column) paintings by this artist, which are also described in its Wikipedia page (which points to this click-to-enlarge image), and various online collections, some of which have their own colorations in addition to a few detail images. His Wikipedia page and collection. All 9 reside at the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice, Italy. Perhaps if you visit there, you can see the complete first painting, without the perfectly squared-off, white rectangle at its base, that seems to be present in all the online images — this commercial website makes it look like some framed empty canvas is blocking the painting at that point. The online gallery at its current-location just has this painting (with no description) from the series, not that one.Second of the 3 works by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.

My bad guys. Thanks to mabrndt, I was able to enlarge this and realize that the winged intruder wasn’t carrying a sword but a long quill pen with which the angel will force the sleeper to sign over all her valuable property and goods to the church. The pen IS mightier than the sword!
