As a very old UK cartoon once had it:Sacked employee: “I’ve been here over 20 years! Doesn’t company loyalty mean anything?”Boss: “Yes: it means you haven’t got the gumption to get out and find yourself a GOOD job!”

Is there any room for loyalty to friends in all this? Guess not in the business world.

Stay on for the 3 months and look for another job in the mean time. It seems its easier to find another job when you’re still employed.

In that case, she’s better off finding employment with another company. Applying for a position within the organization you’re with isn’t a guarantee they’ll hire you.

I said it yesterday. Just because her current position is being abolished doesn’t mean she can’t stay on.

The position I’d recommend for you is ‘Up Against The Wall’.

OMG that’s funny I went through this exact thing a month ago. They fired me because they eliminate my position, but give me 3 months, then at the end of the 1st week after, told me they want to re-hire me for the same position. So funny!

I was one of the fortunate ones when my job was moved from my home state ($16 / hr) to the company office in a southern state ($8 / hr), since I was planning to retire about the time the job was due to go away (at age 68). I waited it out until the department was closed and got one weeks pay for every year I had been there (26 years) instead of the leftovers of a Costco cake. Since they were closing a number of jobs in my state, they were obligated by state law to offer a severance package. This was 8 years ago.

She’ll have to stay for the 3 months if she wants to draw unemployment, right?
