I wonder if he prays, how long he will………………………………….. Snoopster here. no, my old account got the status back. I do not know it will be. Apparently, I liked this name, so im switching back to it
Hey, Snoopster: Did you get your cast off this week? Here are some for you:Click here: Peanuts (February 25, 1976)Click here: Peanuts (March 4, 1976)Click here: Peanuts (March 29, 1976)
Calvin’s prayer is a parody of the “Serenity Prayer,” often attributed to Reinhold Niebuhr, which was adopted by Alcoholics Anonymous during World War II. Here is Niebuhr’s version, according to Wikipedia:God, give us Grace to accept with serenitythe things that cannot be changed,Courage to change the thingswhich should be changed, and the Wisdom to distinguishthe one from the other. There is a second part of the prayer that is less-well-known, perhaps since it is Christian, mentioning the name of Jesus, whereas the first part mentions only God and can be used by multiple faiths:Living one day at a time,Enjoying one moment at a time,Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,Taking, as Jesus did,This sinful world as it is,Not as I would have it,Trusting that You will make all things right,If I surrender to Your will,So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
If we sat down and accepted something was impossible, then we would never progress. Think in just our time, not just human history how many impossible things became possible..“The word impossible is not in the American language.” From the Earth to the Moon by Jules Verne 1865
Yes…but “the INability to accept what I cannot” (change)? That will make him a very cranky adult, wouldn’t it? I’m not a psychologist, so uncertain about this. But, yes…he will lead an interesting life!
Ok, this one made me spill coffee on the ships deck and myself as well…I was calmly sitting here, enjoying the sun on the water (am on an Alaskan cruise) drinking my coffee and reading my funnies on my laptop… this strip brought an abrupt change…had me laughing so loud folks down the row of lounge chairs were leaning forward to look at the crazy person…roflmaoooooooooo still!!!
Dear Gods Grant me the wisdom to change the things I can. The knowledge the to know what I can not change.. And dear Gods a large hole to hide the bodies…
If Calvin survives to get old enough, he might switch to the Senility Prayer:
.
God grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones that I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.

In the last frame of today’s strip, Calvin and Hobbes look exactly the same as they did in the last frame of yesterday’s strip.

Not anonymous. It was St. Francis of Assisi. The entire quote is used by AA as inspiration.

He’s so brilliant the way he can change just one word and achieve a whole new meaning! No other comic strip comes close.
