@battle of plattsburgh,I’ll give you credit for your musical play-on-words so you won’t have to blow your own horn!If you wanted more violins on the ‘tuba’, you might be able to pull a few strings, but if you want more sax, you’d probably have to sound the trumpet.
I used to be able to watch more violent films and tv when I was younger, but as I grew older I couldn’t help thinking that there are real people in this world who are subjected to horrible violence on a daily basis. Pretty much why I stopped watching Game of Thrones . . . I couldn’t stomach the violence anymore . . . which is too bad, because it’s an interesting story.
Too much violence on television is why I mostly watch only comedy shows like “Mike & Molly”, “How I Met Your Mother”, “Two And A Half Men”, etc. The one exception I make is “Wipeout”. I really, really, really LOVE that show!!! What people won’t do for the chance of winning $50,000.00!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t stand it when people use the phrase “Lowest Common Denominator” this way. LCD would probably be trying to appeal to everyone. The phrase Calvin wants is “Greatest Common Factor”
“Running around/explosion” movies = done to death. That’s why “Breaking Bad” has captured an immense audience with clever dialogue, A-list acting, and entertaining visuals. BTW, generally speaking, movies with G or PG ratings make far more money than the others with X ratings….

Seeing the dumbing down of everything in the last couple of decades,I think Calvin was merely forecasting the shape of things to come.

I think we can all agree, “there is too much violins on PBS”. …..And not enough sax.

Reality TV, Jackass, MMA, and UFC all came to exist after this panel was penned. Waterson is prescient.

Well, I feel violent when a TV show is 75% commercials in 90 minutes. I wanna find the person who invented the DVR and kiss him / her on the lips.
