Frankly we have no one but ourselves to blame. We make democracy restrictive and don’t encourage voting. We allow the offices to be bought and sold at all levels. These people are just following the capitalistic system we instituted and using it in their political office.

In comparisons with history, these times have been actually much cleaner. But we should not condone the fact the majority of our leaders’ time is spent fund raising for the next election, instead of actually working on our problems.

Given Toles’ bent about local DC politics (in particular the subway), I think people are reading this one too broadly… Looks like another city govt rant from him.

Back when I lived in my old apartment, most of the other building tennents couldn’t be bothered to walk across the street to vote. However, they were more than happy to vote on inane “reality” shows like American Idol.

Hard pressed to see any bit of the sun in the hoards of corrupt souls. They may be OK when they get there, but within days or weeks they too sell their souls for various amounts of money. It’s like that question about prostitutes, it’s just haggling on the price.
