The correct name was Gildersleeve. It was him or someone that looked similar to him, that made guest appearances on the Lucy or Jack Benny shows as a smart alec salesperson who always stated out with Yeeessssss.
Actually Frank Nelson started working steadily on the Benny program a year or two before Harold Peary created the character of The Great Gildersleeve on the Fibber McGee & Molly radios show,
