I’m guessing Betty will explain the sordid details of lunch to her hubby the rest of this week. Suffice to say, the down attitude doesn’t reflect well on how her “friend” followed up.
I really don’t think that judging someone who was laid off by a friend, and laid off at all makes much sense. Betty was just dealt a blow, her husband is not going to be thinking about ‘how little self-respect’ his wife has, he’s going to be thinking how much it sucks that Alex laid her off, and how off-kilter Betty must be feeling. I’m sure that Betty is just doing what she can to get through each moment, and riding a bus home after you’ve been laid off, actually sounds like my idea of hell. lol, Why not take the ride? I would. Might as well benefit in some way from having a ‘friend’ give me the ax.
The interesting thing is that hubby’s reaction is precisely what we’re told women usually want in a situation like this. They don’t want help, they don’t want guidance, they just want an ear or an arm. Reassurance, not solutions.

I love this couple (much better relationship than in most of the couple strips on GoComics).

A hug always helps. Perfect gift – one size fits all and it’s easily returnable.

I don’t see what else he could have done that would’ve been better than that hug in that situation right then.
