I feel like I have forgotten or missed a strip.

Pastis must be be feeling pretty feisty, taking on a whole syndicate as the butt of his humor! (Full disclosure: I like Prince Valiant, especially under the new art/story team, and read it every Sunday.)

“He turned a prince into a frog? What did he do, marry him?”— my wife
knight1192a about 12 years ago
Nope, it wasn’t Larry that kissed Prince Valiant and turned him back into Freddy the Frog, it was a bunch of Lawyers and their blaming it on poor Larry. Vile lawyers. Which classic comic strip character are they going to turn into frog’s next and blame Larry for them being a Frog?

It looks like the lawyers made it “easier” to do the “right” thing, to me….

I love Pastis’s comments on lawyers :)

That last line is even more funny if you knew that Stephan Pastis used to be a lawyer.

Lawyers – It may not appears that way but there are plenty of I(s) in Lawyer

Lawyers are good for some things… after all, they are high in protein.

I thought you could use copyrighted material in a satirical way.Oh well, leave it to the lawyers to kill all the fun.

1. This is about a trademark, not copyright.
2. Yes, you can use trademarks in a way that doesn’t confuse consumers. Or at least you could until Congress made up the truly evil concept of “trademark dilution”. Now it all depends, because nobody really knows what “dilution” means.
3. In any case, this is a joke. In cartoon-world, Larry got a cease-and-desist; I see nothing to indicate that in this world Pastis got one.

More than once I’ve had a lawyer as my personal assistant…when we broke the backs of the reeps and opened the company lumber towns in NCal…someday that’ll get told.I’ll probably have to publish it in Europe or an Arab country if my country goes crazy enough to appoint a new reep-richie billionaire-baby-fatuous-fathead as President…

They sure do.

I suppose Disney’s lawyers are lined up to sue the heck outta him for the Mary Poppins thread too. Pastis is keeping the legal system well fed, almost as much as MAD Magazine.

Ironically, Prince Valiant has a better hairstyle than Larry’s wife.
