If you borrow my books you gotta expect some margin notes. My friends and family find them entertaining. There’s a few people I like to borrow books from too. Some books become epic that way. A well-shared copy of “Bridges of Madison County” comes to mind. Hilarious.I always look for the marked up books when I’m in vacation condos and houses. Sharing with strangers!
Guilty, guilty, guilty! I confess… I am one of those miscreants who dog-ears book pages – no matter how many book markers I possess ( and they are quite numerous ).It is a lifelong bad habit that I have never completely broken. Still it’s better that breaking the spines or writing notes in the margins or underlining sentences. Never did the first and the last to went out after I got out of college.
“I divide the books Nero Wolfe reads into four grades: A, B, C, and D. If, when he comes down to the office from the plant rooms at six o’clock, he picks up his current book and opens to his place before he rings for beer, and if his place was marked with a thin strip of gold, five inches long and an inch wide, which was presented to him some years ago by a grateful client, the book is an A. If he picks up the book before he rings, but his place was marked with a piece of paper, it is a B. If he rings and then picks up the book, and he had dog-eared a page to mark his place, it is a C. If he waits until Fritz has brought the beer and he has poured to pick up the book, and his place was dog-eared, it’s a D. I haven’t kept score, but I would say that of the two hundred or so books he reads in a year not more than five or six get an A.”- Rex Stout, “Plot it Yourself”
Teresa,Before they were re-branded Kiwi Fruit, they were called Chinese gooseberries. I’m less surprised by the size of the berries in the blog (obviously another variety than Kiwis) than by the fact that they’re smooth skinned. Also, the gooseberries I grew up with (wild) made rhubarb seem sweet by comparison, so a shot of that juice would probably have made your eyes cross.
An abyssmal procedure, in my mind, on the same crime scale as certain religious* mutilations (both male and female). I used to breed cocker spaniels to show and the tails HAD to be docked. Now different, thankfully.-—————*I don’t mean to offend anyone on religious grounds, it’s just my personal opinion.
That Barbie Dream Hearse is driving near Safeco Field (the baseball stadium) in Seattle. I guess I’ve never seen it before because I’m not a big Mariners fan so I don’t frequent the area…but unless I’m mistaken, the Mariners are headed toward another crummy season, so the hearse might just come in useful.

SPIDER VS DRAGONFLYOn a walk through Celery Bog a couple of summers ago, I came across this damselfly stuck in a spider’s web. Sadly I had no chance to wait for the spider’s appearance. And you really should click the little picture to get the full HD width image so you can see the look (human interpretation) of anguish/panic on its face.

Never, ever dog ear your books, Hell, print out and laminate your favorite FA strip and use it as a book mark.

I like how the Kindle reader on my iPhone denotes marked pages with a dog ear.

Luckily one can’t get TUBERCULOSIS from eating a lot of potatoes. Otherwise my virtually all Irish and German heritage would doom me.

If a murmuration of Starlings occurs over your vineyard during the late summer ripening season you’re in BIG trouble!
