My grandkids conned me the same way over puppy. we bought it. they took it for walks twice. The dog is now 12 years old a bit wobbly on his legs but no regrets on my part, he has been a great companion over the years…
Cleaning a litter box every day is nasty, but not as nasty as letting it go for a few days and then cleaning it. The alternative is an outdoor cat, but they have a tendence to disappear when you live in a city.
I have actually seen “forever” promises that didn’t last even 2 days. I look back at all the times I gave in to my kids and they didn’t use what we bought, that they were just gonna die if they didn’t have, or they never ever took care of it. So NO is a good answer.
When I was a kid, I would never have liked cleaning the kittylitter (it didn’t matter, anyway, my mother hated cats). I didn’t even like dishing out my dog’s food from the can. Now as an adult and have a cat and religiously attend to her litterbox, I’m very careful about washing my hands with soap after attending to that job: You never know what parasites may lurk in the box.
Stick with it Ellie! It is hard to say no to kids sometimes, especially when they give you the puppy dog eyes, but what’s best for the kitten has to be taken into consideration too. Some kids are great with taking care of animals – other forget very quickly about their furry friends.
Ellie’s not mean. She’s an exhausted stay-at-home (most of the time) mom, who does most of Farley’s cleaning up. And the kids are too young to handle a pet on their own.
A kid once asked parents for a pony. They said no.But Karen has one!!Kid comes home from school next evening.Dad says, I’ve talked to Karen’s dad , and(Kid’s eyes light up!!!)and they are leaving for vacation tomorrow, and I’ve said you will take care of the pony for two weeks. That includes stable cleaning, feeding, watering, curry etc, and at the end of the two weeks, we’ll buy you one.(Subject never came up again!)
It would be meaner to take an outdoor cat and stick her in the suburbs where she would have to use a litter box, stay inside all day, and put up with a big hyper active dog.
nah. still mean. Can’t convince me otherwise – get the kid a kitten and deal. Anyway, all Ellie does it bi**h about her life anyway, so it would just give her more ammunition. but hey, this is a cartoon, not real life. sheesh.

Forever? Hey, time flies.

What is so mean about what she said? Forever doesn’t last very long for kids that age.

mean because she won’t let them have the kitten! As much as I am not a fan of cats, they are far less work than dogs most times!

Didn’t they fly? So they would have to dea lwith a carrier, additional fee, vet bill… those “free” kittens get very expensive very fast

She should just tell ‘em the truth. We already have a pet – Farley – and We (meaning herself) don’t need anymore responsibility.

My aunt who raised me said no to every pet I asked for. She said I could have a fish, didn’t want one.

A dog the size of Farley should be enough of a pet for anybody’s house!

I would had told the kids that kitty was too young to be away from it’s mom… and the rest of it’s family.
