Just for the record, theobromine is the stuff in chocolate that makes it so irresistable. It’s very poisonous to dogs and less so — but still bad — to cats. You can get dog-safe “chocolate” … or you can get the real thing and eat it yourself.

Actually, humans are the only species I know of that bare their teeth as a sign of happiness or friendship. For any other animal, it’s a threat display. This even includes other primates; if a chimp “smiles” at you, it certainly doesn’t mean he’s happy to see you.
