Penn State did not approve child molestation. Four flawed humans did not do enough to stop it, granted. But saying it was institutionally accepted is absurd.
sleepy2: Those four represented the institution and directed its acts and policies. Yeah, they are out now that it has been exposed, but what took so long? They not only did not do “enough” to stop it, they tacitly or actively encouraged it. That looks like approval to me. Revisit the Nürnburg trials of 1945-46 for the legal principles.
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
Actually I believe you have misunderstood Annie’s inquisitive statement. She seems to be trying to understand Lila’s thought process. Being the highly intelligent child that she is……she concluded, that could have been Lila’s thinking. Hence the ‘I can’t mother a genius’ remark. Aka….Annie is smarter than Lila..As to the conclusion of your remark……I’ll be nice and go with what Violet Bay said…….you are one sick puppy.
Money is a funny thing. Nearly everybody thinks that once they get it, all their problems will be over. But rich people know better, because their problems multiply.
Setting aside all the foregoing, how does Annie’s observation (“money turns opinions into facts”) relate to the situation as a whole. Her opinion was that Lila shouldn’t marry. How did money turn that into a fact? I don’t think it did. Seems to me this remark missed the mark somehow.

With money, it’s more like it doesn’t matter at all. Just ask Homer.

Money does change some people and wishing Annie dead because of her opinion is sick.

Someone’s been watching The Colbert Report, Annie. Next she’s going to get her own SuperPAC.

I’ve been reading this cartoon for so long I can remember back when I use to like Annie.
