If you click the 19th century … link, it points to 2 partner websites, the first of which has the image in the first title link (the second is his Wikipedia page), taken from here (comments about both painters), and the second has a rather different coloration, the 8th thumbnail, currently, here. Since the first is closer to the coloration of the click-to-enlarge image that accompanies a description, an artist bio, and at the NGA, I chose it for the title image. The second is closer to the different coloration image shown here. The artist’s Wikipedia page and collection (more under Subcategories).So far, 6 works by this artist (sometimes as Johann Friedrich Overbeck) have appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog.
