Jeez, poor Skeezix needs to go back to the days of player pianos and kerosene lamps. Modern-day technology doesn’t seem to agree with him.

My grandson, when he was little, used to build things by " reading the constructions ". He never read the verbiage but just followed the pictures. It worked.

I have to admit that instruction manuals are worse then I’ve ever seen them. I’ve been installing audio/video gear for friends and family since the 1970s, and always try to read the manuals, because maybe there’s a nice new feature that I discover. In the 1970s-1990s, they were written reasonably well. But since then they, along with computer program documentation, have gotten undecipherable. This is because they’ve gone from “telling a story of how to fully use it” to “list of tasks to perform, covering 10% of functionality, and then a random list of the other 90% of the features.” It’s just very poor writing, but it’s encouraged by not giving the tech writers enough time to do a decent job.

A couple of years ago I purchased a portable A/C.

These are the instructions for using the “Sleep Function”.

Sleep function: You can choose sleep function with remote control under cooling mode & heating mode. Steps as below:

    a. the portable air conditioner would be enter into sleep function when you press sleep button of remote control.

If you set sleep function under cooling mode, it would been risen 1 degree F one hour later, and would been risen 2 degrees F two hour later. After that it wouldn’t been rose.

(This is the way it reads, except it used the superscript "o " for dergree that I can’t replicate on the keyboard.)

Guess what country it was made in?

If by “pedo french” you mean Italian then you may be on to something. According to Google Translate the words we are able to see translate as: “InstallationYour safety is important! Read them carefully! This means that…you should never put his hand in …”
