What tickled my fancy was that I have actually seen other employees act like vultures when a fellow employee has been let go. They’ll scrounge for anything ( most of which they don’t need ) that the poor guy’s left behind or like Cosmo, have the chutzpah to ask for it before the guy’s even cleaned out his office and left the building.
At my first employer, I knew an old-timer who (in the 1930’s) was RIFfed along with his whole department. Only because of the haphazard nature of the company’s paper communication, he was never told. Likewise they continued sending his paycheck to him at his remote location. Some months later, when his experimental program was finished, he went back to the office to report to his boss. Was astounded to find his boss’s office empty, so he went to the next level up boss. That guy looked at him like he was seeing a ghost; and finally squeaks “You mean you’re still here?” My friend says nonchalantly “Why shouldn’t I be?” Boss #2 told him what what was supposed to have happened. Then he says “Aw hell. Since you’re still here you may as well stay.” My friend ended up working for the company for 45 years.
I don’t mind it when folks get fired … sometimes it has to happen … been fired myself … it’s never a happy occurrence, but neither are tornadoes, earthquakes, etc.what BUGS me is if you decide to leave for a better job (“fire your boss”), they still expect a two week notice.
Ashburn stadium: You might appreciate: about the same time as your accident, I came on a scene where a guy dropped a generator in the road off his truck. I parked to get out and help him move it. A lady came along and parked her rig, and came over to help us. Her car wasn’t in park, and rolled into my vehicle, nobody in either car. My “safety” office “investigated” and wanted to charge me with the accident, for “unsafe SPEED”!! Both cars were empty, HER car rolled into my “company” vehicle, which WAS in “Park”, with the parking brake set, as noted in the report!! It took almost nine months to convince the idiots in “safety” that “unsafe speed” is pretty tricky when your vehicle is in park, brake set, ignition off, and the keys in your pocket! Fortunately we did get the generator moved from the road before anyone hit it, and the generator was cited for “unsafe speed”.
I received my attendance award two days after my layoff notice. They wanted everyone to identify short-term and long-term goals. Mine were to get payed on Friday and be employed on Monday. Far, far to realistic.

The Perfesser isn’t a vulture, so why is he acting like one?
