Frazz by Jef Mallett for August 23, 2012
Transcript:
Frazz: How was your trip? Boy: Seems my gamegizmo had a dead battery. Frazz: Bummer. Boy: But I saw stuff I've never seen: fish jumping, a storm coming in over the lake, my dad's funny tan lines... Frazz: How about that. Boy:... such an utterly transparent look of satisfaction (but technically, we're on post-vacation).

OK, the chief complaint about this strip is that itās too preachy. as a teacher, I disagreeā¦.but, this is beyond the paleā¦.This arc is sabotage, subterfuge, dishonesty and trickery. And he would have seen those things anyway, when dad or mom took the thing away. Frazz isnāt his parent. Let the parents do their jobā¦A little respect for the parents, pleaseā¦

And Frazz owes the parents of the little whiner, big time..(You know he whined!) And heās telling Frazz about how cool it was now, but at the time, I bet he only acknowledged it with a bored sighā¦and a disgusted gruntā¦Bet he was a lot of fun to be withā¦Good one Frazzā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦Maybe somebody should talk to Miss Plainwell about thisā¦ā¦ā¦

Too many parents use electronic devices to babysit children. When mine were very young, I had a bag with a book or two, a couple of coloring books, and either a small puzzle toy or a few legos. When I was young, we did āscavenger huntsā where we looked for things on a list as we rode. Deer, red birds, alaska license plates, etc. It was fun and encouraged us to look at the world. Frazz may know this childās parents and his deceptiveness gave the child something he would have otherwise not hadā¦memories of a vacation with his family.Respectfully, C.

When we were young, we only went on three vacations where we were allowed to take electronic games, the Ozarks (which was supposed to be a 10+ hour drive and we werenāt allowed to turn them on until halfway) and the southern tip of Texas, which was over 24 hours drive one-way were the only road trips. The third was when on the plane to Florida. I donāt think that Frazz should have over-ruled the parents (in any way), but I agree, too many parents use electronics to babysit their kids so they donāt have to deal with them.

Nowadays very few use maps, they use GPS. When I went through Army basic, I was the only one who could read a map.

Itās obvious who are the commenters who are addicted to their electronics so much that they go nuts when a ficticious character doesnāt have theirs. cuckooā¦ cuckoo

Screw the parents. Weāre going to have to deal with the little %&#!!ucker when they get free of him/her/whatever. Kids raised by electronicsā¦all of themā¦are kids seriously abused.
As are WE the People when they are upon us, slavering and twitchingā¦what do you think zombies etc are, anyway?

Oh. The ends DO justify the means. I will have to keep that in mind.

Sorry, as a veteran of inumerable long car trips as a child, I would have loved a portable game device. Yes, there was one farm with buffalo on it, instead of cows, but that was about it from Harrisburg, PA to Christiansburg, VA on I-81.

now lock frazz in the room with the kidās PARENTSā¦ who spent the entire car ride to and from with āAre we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Iām bored! I gotta pee! Iām hungry! Iām still bored! Are we there yet? Are we there yet?ā

Tigger, you could be right, but he wouldnāt tell Frazz if he was whining or sullen or cranky or bored, anywayā¦..
bigpuma, I love illogical extensions of logic. I find it a great mental exercise, and it makes me laugh. Iād love to know what kind of stunt Frazz might pull on Ms. Plainwellā¦.if he daresā¦ā¦

BTW, I saw a big puma (we call āem cougars here), up near Lake Superior. The DNR tells us they arenāt here, but Iāve seen one, with a friend. Donāt tell they aināt hereā¦.Should I believe the DNR or believe my lyinā eyes? They say people often mistake other cats for pumasā¦.. Yeah, uh huhā¦ I see a lot of tawny tan colored, four foot long tabbies, with three a foot tails, cross the road in front of me in three effortless hops. It was less than 100 ft away from usā¦.bigpuma, it wasā¦.

I like stories with a happy ending. Even if they are make believe.

And here all this time I thought the idea was: A bigpuma is to Frazz as a tiger is to Calvin. It never occurred to me to google it.

actually, I watched the sites most of the time, as I already enjoyed that. Except the flight was at night and the trip to texas included some night driving and driving through a blizzard, so not much to see at those times.
