Transcript:
Caulfield: Tomorrow night is a blue moon and we don't have school tomorrow. Think about that. Frazz: We don't have school because it's still summer. Caulfield: What don't you get about establishing precedents? Frazz: I know how long it is until the next non-summertime blue moon. PINE MULCH

A Blue Moon on my birthday?? Wow.

The next non-summertime blue moon will occur on Wednesday, 31st of January, 2018. Ironic if it turns out to be a snow day.

Ashburn, the real benefit of the law is that people who have motels on the sand with a beautiful clear water view, on a hot summer day have customers. I’m a Dem, but state policies should really promote business. And no, I’m not saying that just because I hate algebra….Seriously, schools were opening in mid August! Michigan has two things to offer the world and make money from:.Cars and beautiful views…Would we stop selling cars during the best sales time?……Don’t think so…

It does kinda blow out of the water the idea that, since we aren’t an agrarian culture any more, there is no reason schools should close for the summer..excuse me? A lot of money is harvested ‘round these parts in the summer. Can’t pay for education without money coming in anyway….Case closed….

I love Frazz – I’m regularly learning something about science, or offbeat cultural references that I had missed. In this case, however, Caulfield got it wrong. But that’s OK – almost everyone does.

Schools started here in Mississippi first week of August. Have been shut down for 2 days now because of Isaac.

The use of the term “blue moon” to describe the second full moon of the month is very recent.
Two excellent articles on the use of the phrase “blue moon:”

I think it is all bunk! Alien’s from another universe are “playing” Earth like a yo-yo on a string!!! We’re just along for the ride.

Lightenup: Quite right. Zoid needs to shut his trap regarding that, and be square with us, and no circular logic.

Irony: The blue moon this month is name the Full Red Moon.

Interesting factoid: In 1940, the percentage of 18 yr olds with high school diplomas hit an all-time high of 50%. Graduation rates peaked in 1969 and have held fairly steady since then. The current on-time graduation rate is around 77%, which does not include late completers or GED recipients.
