Oh that we all had such long-range planning skills and persistence to follow it through.

My grandmother had a sampler hanging in her kitchen, it was so cheery and hopeful:Who plants a seed Beneath the sod And waits to see Believes in God.

I enjoyed your post – a story in two sentences – and “treenapped”, very much! : )

I have fond memories of my swing from childhood. It was a round plastic green disc tied to a branch of the sickle pear tree in our yard. I had much enjoyment from it.

Ours was a bag swing – a pile of worn-out fabric in a burlap bag. Conforms to the body and you won’t get hurt if it hits you in the face. Disadvantage: it takes a day or two to dry out after a rain – less if you don’t mind looking like you had an accident.

I used to lean across the swing with a rag in my hand and play tug-of-war with the dogShe’d pull my waaaay out and let go and then come running back in to catch me again on the return..

Very rare indeed for a child of that age to show that much foresight.
