There are simple chores that a boy Calvin’s age can do to earn money, LX013. He could weed the flower bed or water the lawn, for example.

Even given that this strip is 25 years (or so) old, the consideration that Mum does not work because she stays at home is so anti-feminist that it makes even me shiver.

I guess soliciting or begging is work.

Not strange when you consider in those days the parents looked after the kids not the govt.

That was explained in strip once. They realized the for a number of years, someone was going to have to stay homw with Calvin. Since his mom’s job had a lot of stress, they decided it should be her. See, she’d kinda gotten used to it…

It is work. And it’s easier to earn it, er, the old fashioned way.

Before 1975 being a SAHM was totally acceptable because people realised raising children responsibly was a full-time job in itself. After that, I observed my female college friends who chose to stay at home were often described as, “She’s living off her husband.” O tempore, o mores.With the rise in school violence, more and more parents are turning to homeschooling, which requires more supervision on the part of the parents…however many moms and “mister moms” are choosing to work from home.

Man, how I wish I had read those strips when I was a kid … life would be so much more interesting if I used those lines on my parents!
