I don’t think that has to be true. My son is near the head of the class and has plenty friends. He’s also captain of his cross country team, so that helps. Even back in my day, the valedictorian and salutatorian were very popular. But it is true, geekiness and smartness do not always go hand-in-hand, and the geeky still get picked on.

I came out of boarding school into the tenth grade, and was assigned books I’d used two years ago. My parents tried to get me moved up, but “This is how old she is, and this is where she belongs”. I knew all the answers, the teacher let me help grade papers, and if I’d been the only contestent in a popularity contest, I’d have lost to the write-in.

He looks like a short adult. No wonder he’s unpopular.

Percy’s popularity will skyrocket when the other kids have to go to him for a job.

I was a lonely student. I was gifted in science too and made it my career. There are days I wish I could go back and show everyone that I was going to be somebody, but I also realize how silly that is.
