Alex called her work reviewing Warren’s convention speech: “the most important thing you could ever work on,” “your destiny," and “beyond important … historic.” No wonder Gram feels “overwhelmed”.

Dr. Elizabeth Warren writes the speech. Then her “team” works on it making sure that the Dem. Nat. Committee’s goals are met. Example: no gaffes, such as Todd Ryan’s ignorant prejudiced “legitimate rape” remark. (Okay, grammar too, LWP.) This is essentially an editing job. Gram is only one of several editors. She has a copy of the speech on the table beside her laptop. She enters her remarks / suggestions on the laptop. Then the “team” pools all the results. Warren will have the final say. It’s important work, but a tiny minuscule fraction of all the work that goes into the entire Dem. convention in N. Carolina.

Uh oh. Are we going to follow Joanie’s hubby to Tampa next? I see where Reversible Mittens doesn’t want to talk about abortion anymore. Hmm. Wonder why? Could it be that Akin just expressed the extremist actual position of the GOP? Or maybe the fact that Mittens had a business which involved disposing of dead fetuses? Sorry, there is no other way to put it. That is what it is and that was part of his business. But he now claims to want nothing to do with the matter of abortion of course. Another example of hypocrisy on the part of Mittens.

Also, Rush gave the GOP their marching orders yesterday regarding abortion. He has told them explicitly —no talking about abortion. So that is that I guess. Rush has spoken.

By now, I would think folks could see through all this talk about reproductive rights being brought up all over again. It keeps us from talking about the economy, for which the GOP has no real answers. So, once again, let’s turn back the hands of time with the GOP and let’s try to fool folks into believing that they aren’t as extreme as Akin in regard to abortion by just not talking about it. Given the record of Romney in regard to abortion, one can understand why Ted Kennedy said in his race against him in regard to abortion that Romney is “multiple choice.”

Speaking of disasters, I hear there was another big shooting today in the US. This time it was right outside of the Empire State Building. 10 people were shot, one of them confirmed dead.

BTW, there’s a good chance that Isaac won’t hit Tampa, because my husband in St. Pete has prepared so well that he has probably scared the hurricane off. To wit: “I decided to prepare for Isaac now instead of waiting to see what develops and possibly being in a panic. So I got the propane stove, lantern, propane tanks, and misc. paraphernalia down from the garage cabinets. Cleaned them up, hooked up propane, and put new mantels on the lantern. Got out an old hurricane kit I had in a laundry basket, threw out the old canned foods and water. Found batteries for radio and flash lights and tested them. Got out my blue carry-on bag and packed it with clothes, my toiletry kit and items I’d need for evacuation. If it comes to that, I’ll throw in my meds and other essentials. Later at Publix, I got canned soups and meats, water, a new LED flash light and extra batteries. I think I’m prepared, and hope I won’t need any of it. The green bag is chock full of cans of soup, meat, and bottles of water. . . . If Isaac develops into a nasty storm and heads up the bay, I’ll pack valuables into the van and bug out.”

Wow. I hope it is worth it to live in these hurricane prone areas. Sounds like a lot of preparation. Bringing along an umbrella doesn’t always scare off the rain, although I like to bring it as an insurance policy sometimes. :>) Of course, in our case around here we are experiencing a drought so would welcome rain as long it isn’t too much of a good thing, as in tons all at once

BTW, I am beginning to feel that there is too much of a purist thread among many of the posters here. I didn’t use any cute names until recently and suddenly someone decided to complain. A few days ago someone picked on LWP for making a little ole grammar mistake, bless his heart. Ease up folks! We aren’t writing term papers for college here… Thank the Lord for that! Heaven knows many of us have had enough of that stuff.

“Isaac won’t hit Tampa, because my husband in St. Pete has prepared so well that he has probably scared the hurricane off.”πAre you using metaphor here? Just joking? Or do you reject the scientific theory that increased hurricanes result from human-accelerated global warming? Do you accept the opposing unscientific theory that all this talk about increased hurricanes is lefty scientists engaging in political scare talk?

Gee. I didn’t know I was so single minded too. Sorry. I am aware that there is more than that to talk about. In fact, I referred to the fact that I believe the reason the GOP focuses so much on reproductive rights is because they do not have a reasonable, workable plan to fix the economy. Please refer to a comment I made above. I am not at all happy to be talking about rape, reproductive rights, etc. I thought that battle was already won long ago.

Also, just because one is politically astute enough to make a comment on “Doonesbury,” doesn’t mean you are qualified to be interviewed by Bill Moyers or anything like that… Dude, give me a break— I didn’t major in Poli Sci or whatever. I still believe that if reproductive rights are under fire, this must not be ignored. It would ruin too many lives. Also, it is a big bad loser for the GOP, since their view is so extreme. Yet, they are the ones who keep bringing it up, even though it is settled law and they stand to lose politically since most folks disagree with them in terms of reproductive rights.

@montessoriteacherUnfortunate timing here, in view of the immediate past post, but I love cute nicknames for politicians. (Just the cute ones; not the hateful ones. Don’t know what a “choom-donesian” is, and don’t think I want to know.) My favorite so far is Reversible Mittens. Also, despite being a compulsive proofer-editor, I agree that corrections to others’ grammar and word usage might be out of place here, especially on the part of those participating in masturbation humor and verbal backhanding of respectful requests for less-yucky language!

When visiting my in-laws in Hawaii, we drove by the Kapiolani Medical Center many times. It is a pretty nondescript building from that era in Hawaii. We did the whole Obama tour while we visited there once. We saw the apartment where he lived with his grandparents, the school he attended, the hospital where he was born, etc.

    Good cartoon

I’ve been reading Doonesbury since the very first cartoons. I was there when Joannie got on the bike with Mark and Mike and when she spent her first night with Rick after the election loss. And I have a question. I have to wonder why Joannie is getting older but Rick never seems to. I mean, he has looked the same for a looonnnggg time now.
