Fairport and Ashburn; you two seem to be on the extreme ends of the issue, ya think? This issue isn’t a new one. Have you seen the 1932 Marx Brothers movie “Horsefeathers?” Groucho as the new head of a college asks "do we have a college? do we have a football stadium? “well we can’t afford both, tomorrow we tear down the college.” In reply to the question, “but professor, where will the students sleep” he replies, “where they’ve also slept, in the classroom.” The rest of the movie is a contest to see which college can recruit two professionals to be “students” on their football team. That was 80 years ago before TV and huge, humongous money was involved, so it’s like we’re dealing with something that people like a lot and it’s not going away and the best that can be done is to regulate it and accept that all human endeavors are imperfect and there are always more than one side to an issue. Or not. Keeping a sense of humor can help keep us sane I think or at least from going mad.
so let me get this straight: sanctions against its football team will hurt EVERY past and future Penn State student from 1998 – 2019? You wanna explain that? Is their worth as a student and the school’s worth as a major university that entwined in the football program? Then they really do have a problem.
