OMG Lincoln. How did you ever manage to write this? It is priceless. Is it a leftover essay from when you were teaching? I can’t wait to read the other comments on this strip.

I probably took the longest time reading this strip compared to the others; nevertheless still very funny

On another note – Mr Peirce, you are a genius. I have had students hand me in essays with song lyrics as verbal ballast. But this is right up there with some of the best in the world!

Some make history, some make up history, and those who do not learn from history are destined to repeat it.

(or have to take it again next year)

Any way you look at it, I see a meeting soon b/t Nate & Mr. Nichols, who, from behind his office desk, will be saying: “Sit DOWN, son”. Chortle! CHORTLE!!

Kinda reminds me of a report I had to on General William T. Sherman. It had to be 8 pages long, but there was no word count quota. So I made two reports – one to turn in, and a second to CMA. The first was about 5 pages of Xeroxed historical photos and maps with a paragraph of description, two pages of double-spaced(it had to be double-spaced) blurb, and one page of references used. The CMA copy was in case I got in trouble for the first – it actually had 4 pages of text, 3 pages of maps & photos, and one page of references.

Guess which one got the A? – The first one of course!Never had to use the CMA version. I’m not even certain the teacher read it – I basically ripped about 50% of the text straight out of my textbook, and used the other references for the photos and maps. With a wee bit o’ filler to make the page count.

It was for High School, but you would think the teacher would recognize text straight from the textbook……(This is/ has been a major reason for my cynicism about the public education system in the US)

Nate’s essay is actually quite correct. it’s the execution that’s not that great. Skewered syntax and minor inaccuracies aside,Nate’s report is actually quite good.

He could have made it less opinionated and instead expand some elements. For example, he said Washington’s dad died, but not how, when, or where. He could’ve also explained how he got wooden teeth.
