Dean: Today is labor day, the celebration of the american work force! Heart: Today is labor day, the last gasp of freedom before the forced labor of school.
Did anyone notice that “work force” was spelled properly in Panel 1? It’s TWO words, not one! It’s “work force” not “workforce.” Many so-called professionals need to take a lesson here. And what was it that Billy Joel sang in “Allentown?”“Well our fathers fought the Second World War / Spent their weekends on the Jersey Shore.”
Just started reading this strip because I like Mark’s drawing style, so I really don’t know the names of the characters: what is the little boy’s name and what is the girl’s mother’s name?
I would do it in a minute, if I could. My son’s school just switched from a year-round schedule to a “traditional” one and I am not happy about it. The year seemed to go by so much faster when we had the 9 weeks on-3 weeks off rhythm going, and just when the kids were starting to get “burned out” on school, there was a nice little break. Then, just when they were getting bored, school started back up again. Unfortunately, it apparently “costs too much” to do year-round, and so many of the schools just didn’t have air conditioning included when they were constructed, so of course it is too expensive to go back and add that. =[

Coming back to school after a two month break, real hardship there.

Oh, there are plenty of Philadelphians who go “down the shore” on Labor Day.

The work force celebrates labor day by having more labor than usual. Those who actually labor keep slaving away while the rich have parties.
