Janis: Wedding!? Tomorrow!?
Mary Lou: This was my idea! I wanted it to be simple! I hope you're not angry!
Janis: I'm not angry! I'm...
Janis: I'm speechless!
Gene: Speechless is good, Mom! We have to go to work!
“Early” wedding bells??The wedding has been postponed twice already.Personally, I think they’re still a bit young to get married…. but they HAVE been planning it for about a year… hard to say cos comic time stretches and shrinks…. and their parents approve.Hardly jumping the gun.I don’t think she’d purposely get pregnant while they’re struggling to finish the house and get the farm going… and before Gene graduates. They both love Meg, but Mary Lou is probably very careful now…she learned her lesson about how babies change your plans. They’ll have kids when they’re on their feet.
not angry- disappointed, Janis really was looking forward to the fun and excitement of the wedding planning [deja vu] but Janis- you gotta remember it is not about you, it is about them but oh… it is so hard to let them go. now stand back and watch them fly and have faith in yourself and them that you have done your job and good one too.
when my son was going to be deployed to the Iraqi war the first time, he and his girlfriend decided they should be married before he left in case something happened to him..we had 30 hours from “will you” to “I do” in January that will be 10 years ago already!! doesn’t seem possible!! they didn’t have a justice of a peace wedding either..it was a nice little family and friend wedding with a minister and everything!
Where’s Arlo? Will he be more disappointed about not graduating? Gene’s internship will be at the restaurant and give him 5 hours credit? What did he major in – Food service or business? Gene must be at least 22, probably more because he dropped out for a while.
JJ has moved up the time table,The finale with Janis, Arlo and JJ standing on the stern with drinks in hand and waving as they sail into the sunset may come this fall instead of next spring as I suspected earlier. Either way, the end of Arlo and Janis is near. ;)
1. I voted for “wedding.” Congrats to others who did, too. Oh, and to the happy couple!2. I’m sure JJ’s been careful, but then there was that night on the couch . . .3. This has been a season for weddings in the comics I read. First, Alex and Leo in “Doonesbury,” then Sally’s sister and Ralph in “Sally Forth,” and now this!
My wife and I had reushed our wedding by about 3 months and had a church wedding in a little over a week. She was not pregnant, nor had we any sort of relations prior to the wedding night. That was 13 years ago and we are still in love and have a darling 11 year old daughter. Just because a marriage can be rushed does not mean anything inappropriate has occured. It could just mean that neither party wants to be separated from each other any longer.

They’re rather young? Gene has to be at least 22.

There is the added advantage of not giving Janis a chance to complicate things with plans for the wedding of the century.
