I’ve never smoked even one puff of a cigarette or cigar, but I do have to admit the candy ciggies and bubble gum cigars had an air of distinction to them. I wonder what would happen if teachers today gave those away for good grades, all I got was a sticky foil star.

Beloved St. Paul social studies teacher Gerry Line used to award cigars at the end of the year to those who could answer his super-challenging “Cigar Questions” back in the 60s and 70s. But his students were graduating seniors.

When i was in grade 6 there was a grade 8 student who had his own parking spot. Drove the truck to school every day.
