Ripley's Believe It or Not *OUCH* Bleaklow Moorlands, east of Manchester, England, has peat soil that is more acidic than lemon juice! *WELL? HMM* Male fireflies flash their blinking bioluminescent lights to attract mates, but female fireflies will only flash back at a pattern of light they find attractive! Thomas Daigle of Milford, Mass, USA, paid off the final bill of his house mortgage entirely in pennies - more than 62,000 of them!

the mortgage final payment couldn’t happen in Australia or a lot of other countries. Even when Aussie land still used 1c coins, it was only legal tender to use a max of $10 worth at a time

I agree with phritzg . pluse the trips to the bank to get them unless he has been saving them for years .

Years ago I took a bag of pennies to the bank (back when they would count them for you) for them to deposit to my account. They later sent me a letter stating that two of the pennies stuck together and were counted as a nickel, resulting in a three cent error, for which they were debiting my account. The postage on the letter (as I recall) was 22 cents. Go figure.

I’m going to Bleaklow Moorlands to bury my enemies. Y’know, if I ever have any.

That’s just dumb, and the banks are legally not required to take a large payment in pennies. However money is money.

The bank I deal with has a coin sorter/counter. It could handle a bushel of pennies in minutes.

Since he lived in Massachusetts, pennies are probably all he had left after Romney kept raising the taxes there.

What ‘cents’ does it make to pay off the mortgage in pennies?
charliefarmrhere about 12 years ago
With that many pennies, there is a very good chance that even a few of them may have had valuable collector value. Some may be worth hundreds of dollars.

Pennies ( actuality all coins) are worth their melt down value, but try and get it from a bank.

If I were to say that Thomas Daigle has some issues could I be sued for it? I would only pay in pennies and with my income there wouldn’t be many of them.
