Rudy: “We elves were originally cannibals. We’d thought we’d struck gold, and were going to eat like kings for a week! Especially regarding Clyde, who showed promising marbling.”

In a dark and crumbling kingdom, where the air hung heavy with deceit and the cries of the oppressed echoed through hollow halls, there rose a figure cloaked in shadow and terror. He was not born of flesh but of ancient wrath, summoned forth to scour the earth of those who poison it with their greed and lies. His name was whispered in dread—Krampus, the eternal arbiter.

The powerful had grown fat on their own vanity, weaving a tapestry of falsehoods so thick that truth itself struggled to pierce it. They built towering monuments to their own glory, fueled by the suffering of the innocent and the destruction of the land. Their words, serpentine and gilded, ensnared the minds of the meek, leading them into a chasm of despair. They declared their lies as law, their corruption as virtue, and their cruelty as strength.

But as the first frost kissed the land, a deep and unholy tolling began. Krampus stirred, his monstrous form rising from the abyss. Horns sharp as scythes crowned his head, and his eyes glowed like coals stoked in hellfire. The ground quaked beneath his cloven hooves as he dragged his chains—heavy with the sins of the wicked—behind him.

From the highest towers to the darkest dungeons, he came for them. The architects of chaos and the puppeteers of misery could not escape his gaze. Their power crumbled before him, their silken lies unraveling as the lash of his birch rod struck deep. The masks they wore, gilded with gold and deceit, shattered beneath his relentless hand. And as he cast them into his infernal sack, the land itself seemed to breathe once more.

For Krampus was not the enemy of man but the reckoner of evil. He came not for the humble, the weary, or the righteous, but for those who sowed the seeds of ruin. And as the frost deepened and the stars dimmed, his terrible work continued, a grim reminder that even in the darkest of times, justice will find its way.

The cartoon Santa yarns always show forests and mountains around the north pole. In reality, the north pole is on the polar ice cap floating on a rather deep ocean. One time I was on a trans-polar flight on a bright sunny day, and the pilot came on the intercom. “For passengers on the right side of the aircraft, the north pole is below us now on the right. For passengers on the left side, your view is identical to the view on the right.” Indeed, it was just a flat snowy sheet stretching to the horizon…

So story tellers really do need to embellish it a lot to make it interesting.
