    But… a “red herring” is something you’re supposed to think is responsible for the mystery, but ends up being a false lead. Why would the detective be named “Red Herring”? A suspect could be a red herring, not the detective.

    This is a poor joke even by the low, low standards of this strip and its predecessor.
