How could she NOT see him there. Silly little, oblivious Alice. ;-P

And the plot thickens; Alice becomes girlishly smitten with the take-charge Andre while Dill characteristically seems confused about the very existence of Andre, and Petey struggles to adapt a believable Sherlock Holmes persona.

When Alice and Dill were next to the can and wasp, Alice should have thrown a rock at it. She only has to run faster than Dill, how hard could that be?

I always thought Alice and Dill would be an item some day, but the more I see these two, I like the Alice & Andre scenario. About 15 years from the time of this cartoon, of course.

The wasp chases Andre down the street, Dill kicks the drink away in frustration, Alice does a happy dance on the manhole cover, Petey begins work on his Magnum Opus, a Shoebox Diorama of a scathing commentary on wasps (and little sisters). All’s right with the Cul de Sac World…

I have no trouble believing Alice didn’t see Andre. I wouldn’t go so far as to call her “unobservant,” but she tends to be…highly focused.

Is Andre Petey’s imaginary friend if Alice can see him?

Alice did see Andre. The “hee hee” is the giveaway, it means I chose to be surprised at your “sudden appearance” so that I could express my girlish delight.

Andre’s bigger than life and Alice couldn’t see him! of course paying attention to her and her plight made him more visible to her.

Seems like Petey is trying to conceive of a white anglo-saxon protestant on a manhole…

Desperate to dance, scared by the Big Wasp, Alice naturally runs to her trusted protector, Big Brother Petey (yes, she may make fun of him from time to time, but ultimately he is in her view her rock). While Petey peteyishly mulls over the problem, Giant Andre Chang offers Milady his strong right arm, and suddenly Alice becomes aware of him and has a New Idol and Protector!. Dill is instantly jealous and perhaps rightfully so. La donna è mobile! https://tinyurl.com/gp4knhq
