You remember last year, when you were only four years old. Not like this year, when you’re four years old. And just wait until next year, when you’ll be four years old.
Childhood amnesia, also called infantile amnesia, is the inability of adults to retrieve episodic memories (memories of situations or events) before the age of two to four years.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Childhood_amnesia
Infantile amnesia, the inability of adults to recollect early episodic memories, is associated with the rapid forgetting that occurs in childhood. It has been suggested that infantile amnesia is due to the underdevelopment of the infant brain, which would preclude memory consolidation.
I love the beach, too. It used to be a 10-minute walk from my house in Daytona, now it’s a 20-min drive from my house in Mass. Still make sure to get there a few times a month.
Memory is a funny thing, especially at that age. Sometimes the last thing you think will stick is actually the first thing you remember. I don’t remember much about our trip to Michigan, but I do remember the airline “headphones,” which used to be something very similar to a stethoscope. I played with those things for weeks afterwards.

A three year old’s recollection of a fascinating lamp brings back the fun beach memories better than Mom…

We went to Stone Harbor, NJ every year when I was a kid. The thing I remember about it was all the cigarette butts in the sand.

Such is the memory of a four-year old for what she did as a three-year old. Go for it, Alice! You’ll love the…uhh…beach. Yeah. The beach….
