The GoComics comment forum, especially the Cul-de-Sac page, has always given me immense joy to read, write, get read, liked, replied to, and sometimes get corrected. For the past 8-9 years on this website and on this page, I’ve made many comments and made many mistakes for not being a native English speaker, but I’ve never made to feel terrible about a comment thread as the one under the strip on the 5th of September. As the rules of comment flame war dictate, I should go back and write a scathing response to the last comment on the thread, but I stopped myself from doing it. However, it would give me peace of mind, and I would greatly appreciate it if people reading this comment go back and read the thread of my comment in its entirety (it’s at most 15-20 comments), which is the featured comment for that day. I request you not to respond to the last comment even if you feel the need to. I’d suggest, if anyone is interested, to respond to this comment today with any suggestions towards me if I should’ve been more careful/polite/clear with my messages. As a 37-year-old academic who has been in the profession of teaching/researching in the field of STEM, I don’t mind being wrong or getting corrected; it does not affect my mental health. My intention for this comment is so that no one has to read such responses first thing in the morning. Thank you for your patience. I will now take a hiatus from commenting for a while.
