The holiday has a core flaw, in that nobody has a rational idea how to celebrate it. It is essentially a racial holiday and a cultist holiday (as accurately depicted in the cartoon), and “not working” feeds the worst stereotypes underneath. A smarter way, to facilitate celebration throughout the entire population – rather than a small subset – would be to change Memorial Day to “Civil Rights Day”, and to change Veterans Day to “Veterans Memorial Day.” I oppose any cultism, and shutting down the economy to “celebrate” the life of one person is, broadly, wrong.
Very good comic today Tony.Today I’m going to pick up pinewood derby wheels so hubby can finish the car. There was a small issue. After that I’m taking clothes to my niece for her kids. Their house burnt down Friday night. All people, kids and pets accounted for. Yay! Spent the weekend trying to salvage what we could. Her pictures and important paperwork made it. You never think about how much plastic you have in a home till you smell a burnt house. Yucky!
Except that you’re five days late. And, while I’m at it, that statue in DC isn’t Martin. He looks mean. When Martin wasn’t giving a speech or scared half to death ( yeah he was human and he wasn’t stupid and he had lots of reasons to be scared)— he was joking most of the time. That nasty looking guy in DC isn’t anyone that anyone who spent any time within 20 feet of Martin would recognize.
So…. um….the entire population of any particular skin color constitutes a “cult”?
Therefore, somehow, whenever we celebrate someone’s life…. it’s a cultist and racial holiday…..as in, only people with matching skin color would want to honor that person?
I guess…. blacks and hispanics shouldn’t celebrate Washington’s birthday or…um…. do you figure that if it’s a white guy, it’s universal…. but if he happens to be some other color…oh dear….
And besides…. federal employees have the day off, but most people are working….and stores use the holiday as an excuse for big sales.Hardly “shutting down the economy.”
Thanks, Blackwolff, for saying most of the rest already….
Dry & cleo The kids seem to be doing ok. The 15 and 7yr olds were the only ones home at the time. My great nephew did an excellent job of getting his brother and the pets out safely. The worst part of the thing is she was a renter and the silly girl didn’t have insurance.

WOW! I ignored jbmlaw’s comment because I thought it was LUDACROUS! Then I see Blackwollf9 challenges him/her!
And Harmon I never thought of Mandela as a terrorist. Read the rest of the man’s story!
