I have to feel sorry for Doubleup in this condition. I think we’ve established here that he didn’t have a motive for murder. (I’m still assuming it’s murder.)
I’ve notice Doubleup is more complex a character than say BB Eyes….he does seem to have a personal code. This is second time that side’s been shown the first being with Blaze Rize.
The Spirit should have a look at Perenelle’s body. The coroner is taking too long to announce the cause of death if Perenelle is really dead. I think she committed suicide that’s why Doubleup did not hear anything. The Spirit might be able to tell the effect of the poison that she took from experience.
Perenelle will rise from the dead and become the latest crime boss in Tracyvile doing the most dastardly crimes in town. Of course Doubleup will be by her side as bodyguard and Ramon preparing Monte Cristo for her every morning. I am sure Blaze Rize would love to be a part of her inner circle. 8D
@tsull2121 yesterday mentioned about the note/letter that Perenelle was reading on http://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2017/02/28?comments=visible that everybody seem to have forgotten. Also on the third panel of that strip is Doubleup with a shadow behind him. @tsull2121 noticed that the shadow is incorrect. Knowing what happened these past few days, I think we should give that shadow another look. Is that shadow in panel 3 really that of Doubleup?
Doubleup might have been standing a short distance from the door (I really doubt that) and someone slipped inside the room without him noticing. The floor plan that Brush got from Pouch might have been used by someone to enter the room unnoticed.
The letter Perenelle was reading, Doubleup’s shadow and Tracy asking Brush who is behind him seem to add up to something.
Despite what happened in his hotel, I haven’t seen or heard of The Great Am. Shouldn’t he be concerned that a murder occurred in his hotel?
Going back to Doubleup’s shadow… I remember someone posted here before a link to an Annie strip where Am dueled with someone who is the personification of evil. That shadow behind Doubleup reminded me of Am’s opponent especially that the incident involved someone who is immortal and on the property of Am..
Jeez, I never expected the big guy to be affected this way. Mike’s done a great job making Doubleup into one of the most interesting bad guys in Tracyville.
Wait ‘till the coroner hears she’s six hundred and some-odd years old and see what his conclusions are. And Timmy is right; Double-up’s pay just went down the drain.
DoubleUp blames himself for failing to protect his generous employer. He could indeed become an Avenging Angel of Doom for whomever may have murdered Perenelle—we do not yet know how, though poison seems to be suspected by many. Tracy and the one-armed Spirit (how long will that “graze” keep him in a sling?!) had better do some fast first-rate sleuthing, or things could turn even more nasty.
I cannot envision Diet Smith or Daddy Warbucks as serious suspects, and as evil as the Dragon Lady may be, I don’t see her having much motive, either, though if poison was the means of murder, that might be her kind of thing. It would appear that we have to look beyond those known to have been near at hand to the crime scene. Certainly, Mr. Bribery (or his surrogate) comes to mind, rose or no rose.

It’s good to see that Double-Up has a human side. I wonder if this will influence him to help Tracy & Spirit in this investigation?

I guess him saying “it bites” is better than what a 7 year-old would say today, “it sux”.

That was honestly surprising. But then he’s shown his more human side with his desire for his GF. I can really feel for him now.

Okay, assuming for a minute that Perenelle really is dead, let’s take a tally:
Tracy will be trouble with the mayor for failing to guard Perenelle.
Doubleup is out some valuable pristine comic books. Comic books!
Ramon and his future descendants are all out of a job.
All except for maybe one of the remaining bidders don’t get a shot at the elixir.
Spirit doesn’t get any free time to spend with Mysta LOL
