Jim Doherty’s Memorial Day “Crimestoppers Textbook” entry is back again from last year. That’s the second time we’ve seen his name on this strip in three weeks.
Middle Margie better watch out. Tracy once ordered Shoulders to come down off a ladder. (February 22, 1948) Middle Margie can be thankful this is a slightly kinder and gentler Tracy, because in Shoulder’s case, Tracy kicked the ladder out from under him. Of course, Shoulders was reaching for a hidden gun at the time, and i doubt if margie here is armed.
What’s a concrete bucket doing hanging on the end of a concrete pump? Also, concrete pumps don’t usually arrive at a pour until an hour before (they charge by the hour), and certainly not the night before. And finally, I think it is wee bit early to be talking about wet cement; it hasn’t been poured yet.
While the Margies are foolish to have decided the construction site is the best place to dispose of the bag, it is a prime location for a standoff with Tracy. I liked the cosUcon setting, as it provided the means to show off a wide variety of costumed attendees. I agree it is a minor crime for the MCU to handle, and assume Tracy’s happenstance presence at the convention is the primary reason he followed up on his initial interview with Big Margie. The desecration of graves has yet to be developed. Great art. We see Tracy in motion and Middle Margie from the second floor vantage. Does she really want to make Tracy come up after her? Bad idea.
Thanks to Willy Carlson007, Vista Bill, Ray Toler, Gweedo, Night-Gaunt49, Neil Wick, ave09, JPuzzleWhiz, Morrow and Chris Sherlock for the kind words. Very much appreciated!
In her fit of (unexpected, inexplicable) rage in the last two panels, Middle Margie bears a striking resemblance to the similarly discombobulated Bernice Halper, over in Luann, for what it’s worth (or not). Indeed, if Middle Margie’s frantic gestures aren’t toned down by tomorrow, she may fall down, down, down. Crime does not pay, and every criminal shall meet his or her downfall….
There is no point, now that she’s under arrest, in trying to dispose of the evidence. Even if she tosses the satchel into the pillar-form, it will be retrieved before the cement pour, even if the form has to be dis-assembled (and, BTW, for all you nit-pickers out there, it is cement that is poured, not concrete, which contains way too much aggregate for a pour-job)….
I liked the Crimestoppers today featuring Memorial Day and using it to recognize the special date without having to stop the storyline mid-climax tomorrow (I hope). I also liked that they reminded everyone that Tracy’s character is a veteran (like Walt Wallet, B.D., Hotshot Charlie and several other comic strip characters).

To great lengths they go, evidence to stow, at a construction site
Margie Middle, not exactly little, ascends sans timid fright
Up the ladder, now much sadder, she’s a criminal in flight
They stole the dough at the CosCon show, since then nothing goes right.
Sam and Tracy on the scene. Situation not confusing
Should Marge fall from such a height injuries could be life losing
In holster Tracy’s gun shall stay. Deadly force he’s not abusing
Middle Marge, not living large, her fate is of her choosing.
“Don’t make me come after you,” says Tracy with conviction
Seems he’s chased a thug or two, knows flight’s their predilection
She stole the dough for rent you know. Avoiding an eviction
Only to feel the turning screws due to ethical dereliction.

Just like with the programs…can’t Big Margie at least give Middle a reason why she has to do it?

This story’s end might mercifully be near
Will we see a Margie disappear?
A slip and fall in a tub of cement
Reminding us all of Rikki’s Abner gent
Will she emerge alive as he did
Defying all logic the explanation kept hid
To tell you the truth I really don’t care
The story’s a coat that too tattered to wear.

The first frame on the last row is definitely a classic. I think it’s like the pose on a statue or mural of Tracy.

The angle on the the second last frame reminds me very much of Tracy’s favourite film, Blade Runner, as depicted on November 15, 2013.

Just a reminder it may be a celebration of what deeds were done, but those who did are dead. Died while doing it.

Don’t go up there Tracy. Wait her out. She has to come down sometime.

Big Margie, may be the Brains of the family but I would not expect her to take the heat of the crime !

“Hey, don’t make me come up there!”? THAT’S the best retort Tracy could utter? Sounds like a parent talking to a 6 year old.

Yes, Tracy, you were wrong about the drop-off, and it may cost Middle Margie dearly.
