Rainstorm sounds on youTube videos to help you sleep but are interrupted by scammercials for “The air conditioner that runs on free energy!” or “The supplement everybody is using to burn fat overnight”.
Adblockers are your friends. I will generally whitelist sites that I use frequently if the ads aren’t too intrusive, but if they are everywhere (IE they outnumber the content) or if they are video ads they get blocked
I discovered something cool that may not continue for much longer. I go to at least two Web Sites that have basically said “You can’t see our content until you disable your Ad Blocker”. But, for some reason, they can’t see the Malwarebytes Browser Guard, which proceeds to block the ads (or at least most of them)! And, for most Sites, it’s good to have more than one running anyway…
Being a devil’s advocate, it’s the advertisers that pay so you don’t have to. There are people behind the scenes who keep the sites running along with server farms, buildings to house them and electricity to power them. 5 seconds is a small price to pay for me then I hit “skip”. I can’t do that when I’m watching TV or listening to the radio.
Commercial breaks during TV programs now drone on for four or five minutes … even longer late at night, when the caliber of the commercials is at its lowest point. I have DIRECTV, and prerecord what I want, so I never have to sit through commercials. There are some ads I enjoy, and will watch them in full every time they appear — but definitely NOT the ads from drug companies. I immediately hit fast-forward every time someone says he/she suffers from “moderate to severe” something-or- other.

Occasionally on YouTube, the preceding ad is longer than the video.

If I wanted ads, I’d buy a television.
