Man: My name's Ed Crenshaw, and I guess I'm representin' the Okies who couldn't be here today! You may've heard that the widow Doonesbury had herself a lot of admirers... frankly, I think a few of them boys was mostly interested in her back forty. But the rest of us saw somethin' special in Daisy! Of course, this ain't the place to talk about sex... Mike: Wow, Ed! When you're right, you're right!

Daisy would have really enjoyed this funeral. Too bad she missed it. (Death will do that to you.)

You know, I. P., I was sort of thinking the same thing about that “back forty” comment.

I got the feeling that Ed was about to make a comment about how he got a few splinters of his own while he and Daisy were up on that table.

Too bad Daisy died. A relative with a worthless 40 acre farm here in Oklahoma just got $500 an acre for three year lease from gas production company. Assume from first panel that Daisy lived here. I am fairly new to Doonesbury and am not following this story line and characters very well.

freeholder, maybe Ed is getting turned on by looking at her laid out like that. After all, with an open casket, it’s not too late for a little necrophilial fun. Maybe it’s even in her will.

A local old-timer artist arranged his own going-away party (sort of a wake) at a restaurant, but was too ill by then to make it. We all enjoyed the stories about him, as we celebrated his life. A very few days later, he dropped the body.
I’d kinda like to do that, too - the party part, anyway! The timing is the crucial part, though…
