Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for January 06, 2012
Transcript:
Kim: Alex, you can't let your expectations run away with you. I doubt moving to Paris would be a top priority for Leo... he's got a whole plate full of challenges - his PTSD, the speech disability, having to work his way through college... Alex: I know, Kim. I know it's complicated. But I'm committed. Totally. Kim: Well, good. As long as you think it through. Alex: Do they have community colleges in Paris? Mike: Try to listen to yourself, honey.

I don’t think the family relationship between Alex and her father, Mike, and her stepmother, Kim, is very warm.

Babygirl: Hello, and Let it snow. Every body: Keep hangin’ tough, fuzzy bears: Tomorrow’s rerun is — crossin’ our paws’n’claws — the last for awhile. And maybe, just maybe, after Sunday’s 8 panels, Trudeau will continue this story line into new territory.

What people aren’t seeing here is, this has NOTHING to do with Leo. Only Alex’s problem with not living with reality. She hasn’t even asked Leo if he wants to get married and she’s already thinking about living in Paris with him. All her parents are trying to do is keep her on the ground instead of the clouds. Alex doesn’t even seem to care that she hasn’t talked to Leo about this. She wants to live HER dream and everyone else be damned of they don’t go along with it.

Alex is thinking it through. After all she has to get everything in place and figured out before she asks, I mean tells Leo the good news. It will be such a nice surprise for Leo. (is this where I put the snerk?)

Careful for what you wish for Susan, what would you do with 2 feet of snow?

Thanks, JLG, for the historical pericope. For a few years I didn’t follow Doonesbury, since I was living in a small town in eastern Washington state, and the local newspaper didn’t carry the strip. (That’s redneck, KKK, reich-wing country — which explains why. They even have a town there named Dixie, which was founded by KKKers and sympathizers after the Civil War. Their library carries old photos of white-robed marches that continued for years after. Discontinued now, though. Another item: I got a death threat on my answering machine after publishing a letter-to-the-editor favoring gun control. And I’m a gun owner and favor gun ownership! Goes to show . . . .)

I thought that Gary was very tender regarding the death of Dick Davenport.

Bring back Jeff! This crap is boring. I’ve got a daughter too, and I’ve lived through this stuff already. I like to be entertained or left wondering wtf did he mean, not reliving my past agonies. Sorry for the strong language today. My sciatica is acting up again. I’ll even take Donald Trump ( : - { )

The Picasso-esque picture in frame one of Kim being kissed by another woman is fabulous. Hint, Michael’s right eye is the other woman’s left eye. Look closely. Rev. Bremer
