Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for June 12, 2013
Transcript:
Becca: So, think you'll move out of your parents' basement now? Jeff: Are you kidding me? I'm about to close on the sweetest little 12-bedroom country estate you've ever seen! Becca: Why so many rooms? Jeff: I have enemies, Becca-- I have to keep them guessing where I"m sleeping. Like Saddam Hussein. Becca: Who is dead. Jeff: He had other issues. Do you paintball? I have an indoor course.

This week is re-runs. By coincidence, I’m delivering last year’s code to my client all week. The invoice will be new though.

Do your clients pay you the same amount that you pay gocomics?

Deja Vu (& yawn!) Hey, Garry, why don’t you mix it up a bit and put him in Sedona or somewhere new?… Then he could troll for babes when he visits his buds up in Boulder, and get literary inspirations from close encounter dreams from power vortexes in his new digs…. No charge, but remember my name in the morning.

As I am in a different time zone and therefore here early for the rest of you, here is your daily warning.
Don’t reply to the trolls, we’ve tried reason and it just doesn’t work.
Don’t bait the trolls: let[’s face it, that is actually trolling yourself.
Don’t keep talking about the trolls and how we’re not replying to them, because that derails the comment section just as effectively.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled repeats, thankyewvverymuch.
PS: and didn’t John Oliver do us Brits proud…?

You’ll only get reruns from the trolls, too.

Trolls are COOL! Wait. We’re not talking about the (supposedly) mythical creatures from Norway? Oh, snap. . .
gaebie over 11 years ago
By the time we get back to new Doonesbury strips, Leo and Alex’s twins will be in an exclusive school.

I love both John Oliver and Jon Stewart. That said, can’t wait for Jon Stewart to be back…

I thought that the Koch Bros had finally purchased the ChiTrib because Doonesbury had disappeared from the paper this week.
No, Trudeau is just taking a sabbatical from Doonesbury this summer to work on his television series ‘Alpha House.’ Just like Stewart taking time off to write a movie, sabbaticals are hip this summer.
But Doonesbury! Love the cliff hanger!

So I came for Doonesbury, but I think I’ll stay for the therapy…and the troll gazing.

What is a troll, anyway? Why do some people keep going on about not feeding the trolls? Am I a troll? As an ignoramus, I find all this discussing of trolls quite boring.

“You’ve turned into the monster you’ve been attempting to expose.”.You mean I’ve turned into a conservative republican? If that is the case, CommieFan, please kill me.Oh, wait, no I haven’t; I’m fine.So you, like your conservative brethren, lied to me for your own selfish purposes. You should feel ashamed (but, of course, you won’t).
McSpook over 11 years ago
“Here students really learn traditional values and how to think and not mindlessly parrot.”.Yes, their opinions are welcomed so long as they reflect “traditional values.”Oh yes, no parroting there. And no progress.
McSpook over 11 years ago
You did lie to me when you said,“You’ve turned into the monster you’ve been attempting to expose.”.But that’s a lie, becauseI don’t feel any desire to further lower taxes on the ultra-rich, or deny marriage rights to a couple just because they aren’t heterosexual, or blame the President for the terrible performance of Congress, or do away with environmental protections, or talk about “legitimate rape,”or block immigrants from legalizing their status just so I can hire them for less-than-minimum wages,or own 100’s of guns and 1,000’s of rounds of ammo, or make them teach about the Christian God in public schools,or crush the working man by doing away with unions,or act so endlessly superior and pretend that my way is the only way there is.It’s good for me, and if it doesn’t work for you, that’s your loss, but not my concern until you lie to me and tell me I do believe in all of those damned-fool things I’ve listed above.

I’m pretty happy with Oliver’s stint so far. I think it’ll be better in a week or two when the writers stop writing Jon Stewart jokes for him to deliver and start doing John Oliver jokes. I’m pretty sure they’re good for it, but they have a long habit to turn away from.

Why does everyone hate Jeff? He’s a nut case, but he’s not a bad person.

Umm, please detail what schools are making their students practice Islam. Links to proof, please.

Since Doonesbury is in repeats, I’ll allow myself a repeat as well.Sarge, if you ever once said something that you didn’t already hear someone on Fox News say; if you ever once had an original idea that you weren’t just parroting from some talking heads or some blaring AM radio; if you were capable of one new thought and not just some warmed over hash, I might find your arguments at least interesting. But you are the worst kind of bore, the one who repeats boring things that others have already said.Yes, I get it, according to you I am “full of hate” and “ignorant” and a whole lot of terrible things; but in reality I am just bored with the same silly, meaningless arguments that the right makes – constantly, endlessly and pointlessly.Bring a fresh thought to the discussion and we might have grounds to talk. Simply bad mouth me and other Liberals in the same old way and recognize that you are without meaning. You won’t, of course, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.

SGT, in addition to other errors of fact, you don’t seem to know the difference between the Federal Deficit and the Federal Debt.
The Federal Deficit has been reduced to just barely half of what it was four years ago according to the CBO. Do you understand that? If not, you are not informed enough to make an intelligent comment about the Deficit or the Debt.
Please get direct factual information to “correct lies” or don’t bother to simply spout the same crapolla we can hear from Faux Snooze, Rush the druggy or the rest of Roger Ailes bunch of hired prevaricators.
Going back to your comments about the Classical Academy that Hillsdale is creating: A very good idea which at least partly follows the ideas of Mortimer J. Adler and Robert Maynard Hutchins when they created the “Great Ideas of the Western World” books in the 50’s, following up on the Harvard three foot shelf of classical books.
The concept is a Liberal Education through an educational path that is mostly reading from the great scholars, writers, scientists, mathematicians, poets, and so on. It is somewhat ironic that it has been the basis of some of the most intensive studies of the knowledge of the Western World and is the basis of a “liberal” education which Hillsdale is calling “Classical.”
Anyone who has been able to use the series of “Great Ideas” and follow through the “Syntopicon” guides or the Introduction books alone has had a leg up on a great education.
I looked at the link to the school you posted and the school could be promising. Let’s hope that it does not become a place of academic intimidation but remains as open as great minds like Adler and Hutchins would have wanted.

“Marriage IS for a man and woman. I can remember when homosexuals said they would be happy with civil unions. They lied. Now Marriage. Next is polygamy. Next is bestiality. Lastly you have NAMBLA. It won’t end with homosexual marriage. This is from these groups and not me.”.um, how to put this to someone of your mental capability; You are out of your freakin’ double-digit-IQ mind. If that isn’t the stupidest thing you’ve ever said, it’s certainly the stupidest thing you’ve said today. And you’ve said a LOT of stupid things today.
