Lacey: Consuela, I'm having an aide drop off a copy of my proposal today. I hope you don't mind. Consuela: Not at all, darling. What's his name? Lacey: Willy Royce. He's a perfect dear, and a real find. He used to write position papers for Jesse Jackson. Consuela: Jesse Jackson? Oh, dear. Your aide isn't by any chance black, is he, Lacey? Lacey: As a matter of fact, he is. Why do you ask, Consuela? Consuela: I'm afraid he might not get here, dear. Palm Beach has a town law that's a little... well, special. Willy: My pass card? You guys are kidding, right/ Cop: Would you step out of the vehicle, please, sir?
When I lived in Sarasota, Fla. the town of Long Boat Key had an ordinance that forbade pick up trucks, van, and work vehicles on the Key before 7am and after 5pm, in order to restrict “that class of people” from detracting from the beauty and exclusivity of their patch of sand.
