Lost their soul? Their identity as champions of society’s dispossessed? This must be the part about being condemned to repeat history for failing to learn from it. Fear the midterms. Fear 2024.
A few years before today’s Doonesbury appeared, I read something in Parade, the Sunday newspaper supplement, about the U.S. political spectrum. The spectrum was represented by thumbnail pictures of U.S. politicians, commentators, and discussion show hosts. George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton were close to the center. The author(s) said those seeking elected office tended to move toward the center because, to win the elections, they needed to attract center voters.
To be clear, it’s the American political Liberal these days that keep moving right to appease donors over their constituent majority. We need to trash the two party system as it no longer reflects today’s political leanings: (left to right) Communist, Socialist, Progressive, Corporatist, Conservative, Libertarian, Fascist. Corporatists have usurped our politics.

That would be Manchin’s approach, with his work requirement.

It takes as much work to be wrong as it does to be right. No matter which side you’re on you’re going to be on the wrong side sooner or later.

I imagine you can smell Elmont approaching before he hits you up. And I love the Governor’s entitlement approach. Very apropos.
