During World War I, the British controlled Kenya while the Germans controlled what’s now Tanzania to the south. Eventually the Germans invaded Kenya, employing British maps. The problem was that they stuck to those maps exactly, not realizing that the British had made several mistakes! (They got defeated.)
After the collapse of the USSR many of their military maps became available for , the library where I worked acquired copies of many of them and scanned them.To view, Google: UT Map Collection, then PCL Maps, Asia, Afghanistan.
I love it when Trudeau does transitions like this! At first I thought we were facing another week of Roland but GBT pulls switcheroo and we get our favorite clown team.
“The Warlord’s Son” by Dan Fesperman. Great novel about a burnt-out reporter and an exiled Afghan sneaking in just before the US invasion. One of the best post-9/11 thrillers I’ve read.
The CIA – like the OSS before it – is, at its core, a bunch of Ivy League frat twits who didn’t want to stop playing with passwords and secret handshakes.
Nah, reality is funnier, we had 9-11 because spooks Inc. wanted to have a turf war with the FBI instead, they were afraid the FBI arresting people we knew were inside the US would mess up their intelligence (funny word huh!) operations. Go look the 9-11 commission and it’s findings.
I am reading Code Girls by Liza Mundy right now which is very interesting. During WWII, women were recruited to make and break codes. I highly recommend the book.

Well, if Laurel & Hardy change their walnut-sized minds they could easily join Trump’s “Think Tank”.

Anything the public knows, or thinks about the CIA including any ineptitude is all by design.

I don’t understand the quip here : " Your father’s pre-911 CIA " Is it ‘pre 9-11’ as in THAT dreaded day or ‘pre 911’ the emergency number??

I misread Soviet as Viet.
So is there a relationship between the words?
