Ralph: Dang! I hate texting!! I keep pressing the wrong buttons! My thumbs are too big! June: Ralph, you don't need to spell out all the words! You can abbreviate! You can say "U" instead of "you"! You can say "IDK" instead of "I don't know"! Ralph: Never! That's why kids today don't know how to spell! Whenever I text my kids, I spell out every word! It's bad enough that they can't write in cursive anymore! At least my kids will know how to spell! Norman: It's a text from Dad. Patrick: What does it say? Text: Whap timm will you= be hom?e? Norman: It's always hard to tell!

My wife says Ralph is me! I have a tough time texting as the buttons are way too small…and if I would buy a phone that is large enough to text (with larger keys), I’d need to carry a back pack as the phone would be too large to put in my pocket. :-)

At least his heart is in the right place. It would be funny too, or maybe not so much, if Ralph’s text was perfect, and it got the same reaction.

This is why you get a cellphone with auto-complete typing. Most modern Android cellphones running Version 4.0 or later of the software include this capability.

I’m one of those people who usually spell out everything, although I allow myself an occasional “thx” — that’s it.

TrapperJohn: Because: 1) school boards have decided it costs too much to teach things that compete with multinational corporations’ products and no longer teach it; and 2) parents can’t be bothered to teach their kids useful skills at home.

I agree with Ralph, and have the same issues with my fingers. Kids are seriously losing their spelling skills, grammar, diction, and ability to read more than a couple of sentences at a time and comprehend them.
